Curiosities
He was the first foreigner in Benfica's history. Until 1978, the statutes only allowed Portuguese players (including those born in the then colonies), and an extraordinary general assembly was needed in July of that year to change the rule. The Brazilian forward, signed from Boavista, made his debut on August 29, 1979, against Vitória de Setúbal, coming on for Chalana. And he almost became a lion: on the day he was supposed to sign for Sporting, who was waiting for him at the airport was a Benfica executive.
