He was a lion who became an eagle — and erased the past right at the entrance. Arriving from Sporting in 1934, Valadas scored Benfica's first ever goal in the national championship, in the opening round of the competition, and he would also score the club's 100th goal in the competition. With 159 goals, he is Benfica's highest-scoring midfielder in history.
