He was one of the founders of Sport Lisboa (which later gave rise to Sport Lisboa e Benfica), but history played a trick on him: in 1907 he moved to Sporting and, in the first Lisbon derby ever (December 1, 1907), he scored the inaugural goal — the first goal ever scored in a Sporting-Benfica — against the club he had helped to found.
